Sculptor Pandeya Surendra | Meet the Masters

Pandey Surendra

Born in 1935 in Bihar, Pandeya Surendra received his formal education in art at the Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharti, Shantiniketan from where he got his diploma in Fine Arts and Crafts in 1956. A pupil of Ramkinkar Baij, he went to Cleveland Institute of Arts, Cleveland, Ohio, USA on a Portfolio Scholarship from where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture in 1964. Pandeya Surendra participated in major All India exhibitions including the National Exhibition of Arts. His last solo shows were in Lucknow and Delhi in 2006. His works are represented in various private and public collections in the country and abroad.

An eminent art educationist, Pandeya Surendra was the Principal, College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, and the Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, Patna University where he served from 1967 to 1993.
